Binge-Worthy TV Shows We're Watching This Winter - BON MAXIE

Binge-Worthy TV Shows We're Watching This Winter

Snuggle season is upon us. Well, if you’re in Melbourne or Sydney, or Canberra or Tasmania, that is.

If you’ve found yourself asking, “What should I binge-watch next?” and “Is Succession worth all the hype, or will I be wasting 29 hours of my life if I watch all four seasons?”, then this blog is for you.

We’ve sat down with our team and asked them for their binge-worthy TV show recommendations so you don’t have to spend hours trawling the web or mindlessly scrolling through Netflix’s recommendations, next time you plonk yourself down on the couch.

So, without further ado, here’s what we’ve got for you:

  1. Succession
We had to start here. How could we not?! If you’re not currently on the Succession bandwagon, then, well, you’ve got a lot of homework to do. Like, a lot. The four-season series centres on the Roy family – one of those rich AF families we all love to hate. They control the biggest media and entertainment company in the world, and things start to get messy (read: dramatic) when their father steps down from the company.

This TV show can be binged on Binge (naturally), and is just all-round addictive. You’ll love it. Your partner will love it. It’s one for everyone.

  2. Black Mirror S6
We’re ahead of the curve here, because yes, we’re totally recommending a TV show that’s only launching on the 15th of June. But hey, we're big fans of the big BM (mostly because it shares the same initials as us, but also because it low-key creeps us out), so you bet we’ll all be watching Season 6 come release day.

For those of you who aren’t acquainted with Black Mirror, we’ll give you a quick synopsis: It’s an anthology series (that means it’s a collection of episodes that can be watched in any order) that explores a twisted universe where humanity’s most powerful tech innovations collide with scary human instincts. It kinda makes you think about our future if we keep moving towards such an AI and social media centred world. Eerie, but thought-provoking.

If Sci-Fi stuff isn’t for you, and you zone out when you hear ‘tech innovations’ and ‘TV’ in the same sentence, we promise you’ll still love this show. Pinky promise, in fact.

    Watch it on Netflix.

  3. Never Have I Ever S4
A new release, and one we’re about to start binge-watching, this Netflix TV series is one of those easy-to-watch shows touching on all-things coming-of-age. It’s supposedly funny, honest, and oh-so sweet.

(And in case you were wondering, we totally think our Mini Sidekick in Almond would suit Devi’s aesthetic).

    Watch it on Netflix.

  4. Queer Eye S7
Pride Month, here we come! We love nothing more than a good, relatable binge-worthy Pride TV show or movie, so it just makes sense that Queer Eye released their seventh season in May, right before June (ie. Pride Month).

Never seen the show before, but feel like it piques your interest? Queer Eye follows a team of fashion experts who give lifestyle and fashion makeovers to their guests.

It’s an Emmy award-winning reality TV series, perfect for feel-good watching, and jam-packed with fabulous drama you won’t want to miss.

    Watch it on Netflix.

  5. XO Kitty
Another one for those keen on Pride Month TV marathons, XO Kitty is all about queer teen love, long distance ‘boyfriends’ (you’ll see why we’ve used quotation marks for ‘boyfriend’ when you watch the show), and matchmaking. It’s for lovers of ‘To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before’, and anyone who adores an easy, feel-good watch (*ahem*, all of Team BM).

    Watch it on Netflix.

(Kitty’s Bon Maxie must-have? Our Handy Organiser Pouches (Pack of 3) – Black Stars).

  6. Jury Duty
For lovers of The Office and Parks & Recreation, Jury Duty is a mockumentary that follows the lives of a group of American jurors. The only catch? Everyone in the TV show is an actor… except for one, seriously innocent juror, Ronald. It’s funny, wholesome, and reminds you that amongst the chaos, there truly are some genuinely good people in our world.

Watch it on Amazon Prime (and good luck trying not to fall in love with Ronald).

  7. Bridesmaids (yes, the movie)
Okay, we know we’re cheating here because Bridesmaids is definitely not a TV show, but hey, we’d be lying if we didn’t say we are so excited for its potential sequel. There’s so much conflicting information out there at the moment about whether this sequel will actually eventuate (or if it’ll remain the sequel of our metaphorical dreams), but nonetheless, we’re hoping to manifest its creation.

This movie is for those of you who love a good, hilarious, wedding-related chick-flick, and are keen on having a cosy Saturday night in with your bestie.

    Watch it on Binge.

(And if you’re currently planning a hens party getaway, we have the perfect Weekender Bag for you).

  8. The Great
You know what they say… “If the crown fits, take it”. And that’s exactly what Catherine did when she married the Emperor of Russia. While this TV show is satirical and bound to induce big belly laughs, it’s also a historical (but not entirely accurate) recount of the rise of Catherine the Great. If history isn’t for you, then never fear, this one is so entertaining you’ll forget that Catherine was ever a real person, and will quickly become invested in her desire to kill her depraved and dangerous husband.

    Watch it on Stan.

  9. The Clearing
We’re just warning you: This one isn’t for the faint-hearted. The Clearing is an eight-part psychological thriller that’s inspired by a true story (which is why we’ve warned you). The true story? Well, have you heard of the cult, ‘The Family’? Yeah, it’s based on that story. And we’ll leave it at that.

You can watch it on Disney+, and at any time of the day. Although we’d recommend watching it between the hours of 10am and 2pm only. Any time after that, and you’ve entered Nightmare Central. If you choose to watch this one: Good luck.

  10. Selling Sunset
Ever dreamed of owning a luxury mansion in LA? Maybe you’ve visited some of their richest suburbs on a trip to the US and thought, I’d love to see inside those houses, I mean, ‘palaces’. Well, now you can (see inside them, at least).

Selling Sunset follows the working lives of the Oppenheim Group, a brokerage owned by Jason Oppenheim. It’s dramatic, juicy, and shows you inside some of LAs most incredible abodes.

    Watch it on Netflix.

Aaaand those are our top picks for this winter.

We know what we’ll be doing this Saturday night (and every Saturday night until Spring hits): Making this, and watching all of the above.
