How to Care for Your Bon Maxie Accessories: The Ultimate Material-by-Material Guide

A little love, a lot of longevity. While we design everything with real life in mind, even the hardest-working accessories deserve a moment of TLC. Whether you’re learning how to clean your leather bags or wallets, searching for the best way to care for coated canvas, or wanting to keep your nylon accessories looking fresh, this guide breaks it all down—by material, minus the overwhelm.

Let’s keep your Bon Maxie favourites looking their best for years to come.

COATED CANVAS
Coated Canvas

TPU-coated cotton canvas is a sturdier, more environmentally friendly alternative to PVC—structured, durable and secretly low-maintenance. Think: wipe-clean convenience with a classy finish.

Why it’s good: Water-resistant, dust-repelling and tough enough for daily use—without looking like ‘daily use’.

How to look after it: Everyday marks wipe away with a damp cloth, and cleaning spills early (especially around seams) keeps them from settling in. For stubborn marks, Collonil Cleaning Spray or Twoobs’ Blooper Booper work genuine magic. A light waterproof spray helps seal seams—just avoid the hardware. Store your bag out of direct sunlight to keep the colour crisp, and try not to introduce it to dye-happy fabrics that love to overshare.

FULL-GRAIN LEATHER
Full-Grain Leather

Our full-grain leather comes in smooth nappa or pebbled finishes—all sourced from Leather Working Group–approved tanneries. It’s premium, buttery and designed to age as beautifully as your favourite denim.

Why it’s good: It’s thicker, less processed, naturally durable and built to soften and evolve with you.

How to look after it: A soft, damp cloth handles everyday marks. Use a leather conditioner occasionally to keep the leather supple, but avoid harsh cleaners meant for boots—they’re too aggressive. A leather-safe waterproofing spray helps protect from light rain or the occasional coffee-run chaos. Keep it away from abrasive surfaces, direct sun and fabrics that like to transfer their enthusiasm (read: their colour).

For deeper cleaning, use a coloured-leather cleaner or call in the bag-cleaning professionals. Spot test, always.

WATER-RESISTANT NYLON + WASHED NYLON
Water-Resistant Nylon + Washed Nylon

Our water-resistant nylon—whether washed or tightly woven—is lightweight, durable and blissfully low-fuss.

Why it’s good: Splashes wipe off easily, and the fabric holds up beautifully to real life without losing shape.

How to look after it: For everyday marks, a gentle wipe with a damp cloth does the trick. For bigger messes, spot wash with mild soap and water (keeping hardware out of the splashing zone). For tougher stains, Collonil Cleaning Spray or Twoobs’ Blooper Booper come to the rescue. A water protector spray like Collonil’s Vario Spray helps reinforce seams if you want a little extra protection.

OXFORD WEAVE TECHNICAL NYLON
Oxford Weave Technical Nylon

Our premium Oxford nylon is a heritage weave—loved in high-end travel gear for its strength and cleanability.

Why it’s good: Lightweight, structured and easy to refresh—perfect for toiletry bags and accessories that meet makeup, skincare and the odd mystery splatter.

How to look after it: Makeup marks? Micellar water is the tiny magician—dab, wipe, done. Our toiletry bags can also take a gentle cold wash and should be air-dried in the shade. A water protector spray on the exterior is optional, but it won’t hurt.

COFFEE-COLOURED NYLON LINING
Coffee-Coloured Nylon Lining

Our signature coffee-coloured lining is durable, easy to clean and intentionally chosen so you can see what’s inside—without every speck of life showing up front and centre.

Why it’s good: Stronger than the usual silky linings, water-resistant, excellent at disguising everyday messes, and helps you see inside.

How to look after it: Micellar water or a damp cloth handles small spills and makeup transfers. Bigger messes can be tidied with mild soap and a soft brush—but avoid soaking the lining, as water can seep into the internal structure. A water protector spray on seams is optional but helpful. Always let the bag air dry fully.

When your accessories are thoughtfully made, looking after them becomes beautifully simple. With the right love and care, your pieces only get better with time—softening, settling and slipping into your routine like they were always meant to be there.
